The
Bletchingley Arms is on the A25 in the village of Bletchingley and
has been one of our most popular venues for an SVVS evening meeting. The
Plough, re-branded as Bletchingley Arms, is opposite the dreaded speed
camera on the A25 with lots of passing traffic, - braking sharply. Our
visit therefore pulls in the general public and is also good for the Pub!
When the weather is fine it draws our best, or second best, attendance of
Members of the year.
Weather
this time was a cooler continuation
of this year's sweltering heatwave of not having any rain whatsoever for
over a couple of months and temperature of 40 Centigrade. The
'grassy knoll' was yellow and parched, and smaller than normal, utterly
solid and rock hard. No hesitation this year of cars going onto the grass
for fear of sliding or bogging down !! But not many cars went on it
as there was adequate space in the car park; perhaps emptier initially
because of our earlier starting time of 6pm.
It
was nice to note quite a few new faces and cars becoming regular visitors.
We had a
very good turnout of about 43 vehicles of interest and there were a few
vehicles belonging to non-members, - some took membership forms and may
join our ranks. The hotrod brigade, which normally join us on the night
were absent this year. There were plenty of vehicles of interest at the
meeting, some seen for the first time.
