As a result of previous efforts by our Members Messrs
Peter Clark/e-s, who are/were also running/members of the Jaguar
Enthusiasts Club, the JEC Regional Committee had again extended an
invitation to the SVVS to join them at their Thursday July meeting. The
invitation was specific to Members attending in their oldies and to
display them along with JEC Jaguars.
The turnout was probably the best of the current joint venture. It
was difficult to say who provided the greater numbers because some
of the SVVS Members came in their Jaguars and some of the JEC
Members in their 'other' cars! Nobody took official note of
SVVS attendees, but from the photos it is possible to spot some
proper SVVS cars. Jaguars included Messers Chairman
Mohaceks in the go-faster supercharged XKR (which would have been
frowned on at an SVVS meeting as a 'modern', but Chairman is also member
of the JEC ; so there!). A couple of SVVS XKs were there belonging to
Messers Goisset and Messers Curtis. A brace of Midgets came the circuitous
route driven by Rick Hone and Simon Mohacek. MGB GT of Alan Pratt
and the Ireland Rolls were there too. The white NG belonged to Peter
Clark and the blue Morgan to Ken Berry. Bruce Glover came in, I think, a
TR. As I do not have a current 'car list with reg numbers', apologies
for them wot was missed out.
The Museum complex houses exhibits of cars, motorcycles, cycles,
and aircraft. Some vehicles are exhibited in the Clubhouse, mostly in
the Malcolm Cable & ERA Shed, and the adjacent Jackson Shed. The
vintage aircraft are housed in the massive Hangar. A number of military
and civil aircraft are scattered outside in the grounds, including the
magnificent CONCORDE. That is some beastie!!
During the evening arrangements had been made for all of the
Museums buildings to be open to both sets of assembled visitors and for
them to be able to wander around at will. Guides were available in each
building to give expert information. It was a wonderful
opportunity for those who had not been to Brooklands, or those who had
not been for a while, to go at a time that the place is not packed out
with screaming weekend kids spilling ice cream over ancient
machinery.
After more than adequate time to slowly peruse
and photograph all the
exhibits, everybody retired to the splendid Brooklands Members Bar for a
glass of pop and a chat. Many Thanks to JEC for a superb
evening and many thanks to Brooklands for opening the exhibits!
