Dinner - Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate - February
2014 ]

Reigate
Manor Hotel was again the venue for the 2014 Annual SVVS Dinner and
was attended by a smashing turnout of 90 people.
This was the fifth Dinner presided over by the new Chairman
Bozi Mohacek (aka Vintman), ably assisted by Mrs Chairman Julie Mohacek who organised the Raffle,
- and who also presented the cups. Raffle ticket sales were carried
out by Julie, Janet Russell, Thelma Oakes and Rick (in the absence of) Gosia Hone.
The Hotel staff were very friendly and efficient and were almost unnoticeable by their
super efficiency! The use of the Bar area and the small Brokes room as pre-dinner drinks
seating area was a great success. Not much can be faulted with the meal
and the service.
After the superb meal, the SVVS Cups and accolades went to: Nick
Woollett who got the Chairman's Cup for winning the Treasure
Hunt; the Hero Cup was awarded to Desmond Peacock for 'An Interesting
Historical Car Restoration'; the Award for winning the SVVS Quiz
went to Chris Cuss; and the award for Outstanding Services to the SVVS, the
President's Cup, was presented jointly to Linda Malings and Fraser
Clayton.
As to the Guest Speaker, we were lucky enough
to obtain the services of Reverend John Scott who is the retiring Vicar
of St Philip's Reigate after 24 years. John is not your average 'Miss
Marple' type Vicar; - studied at Westminster Abbey, Theology at Kings
College London, then local vicar , then Hospital Chaplain at the
City-of-Wells Hospitals, Chaplain at Pangbourne Naval College, …was a
Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, - then the School
Chaplain at St Bede's School Redhill, and then eventually the Vicar of
St Philip's Reigate. This, simultaneously, as being for 22 years the
Territorial Chaplain to the Armed forces in the Royal Army Chaplains
Department. He is a friend of our Publicity Officer Tony Russell, and he
with Mr and Mrs Chairman, are all going together to South Africa, where
John will be marrying Tony's daughter Felicity to a Rustenburg diamond
mining engineer !!
John also drew the raffle, the proceeds of which went, as is the tradition,
to the Speaker's chosen charity, which was the Alzheimer's Society.
