Dinner - Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate - February

Reigate
Manor Hotel was again the venue for the 2015 Annual SVVS Dinner and
was attended by a smashing turnout of 90 people.
This was the sixth Dinner presided over by Chairman
Bozi Mohacek (aka Vintman), ably assisted by Mrs Chairman Julie Mohacek who organised the Raffle,
- and who also presented the cups. Raffle ticket sales were carried
out by Julie, Janet Russell, Thelma Oakes and Gosia Hone.
The Hotel staff were very friendly and efficient and were almost unnoticeable by their
super efficiency! The use of the Bar area and the small Brokes room as pre-dinner drinks
seating area was a great success. Not much can be faulted with the meal
and the service. A venue that can be recommended !
After the superb meal, the SVVS Cups and accolades went to: Ian
and Christine Scott who got the Chairman's Cup for winning the Treasure
Hunt; the Hero Cup was awarded to Doug Sizmuir for 'An Interesting
Historical Car Restoration'; the Award for winning the SVVS Quiz
went to Nick Woollett (collected on his behalf to pass on by Tony Oakes); and the award for Outstanding Services to the SVVS, the
President's Cup, was presented to the SVVS Founding Chairman Derrick
Graham.
As to the Guest Speaker, we were lucky enough
to obtain the services of Philip Dixon who advised his talk could be
described as either "The surprised author !" or a more
agrarian….. " A load of bull !" . Perhaps a more descriptive
version of his talk is the title of his current book 'Dairy Cows and
Duck Races - a Northumbrian Farmer Remembers'. Either way the talk was
about how the son of an urban chemist from Gateshead, ooop norf, learned
to walk 800kg Bulls and then went on to have close encounters while
working alongside these bovine Giants. As is the custom, the Speaker
nominated where the proceeds of the SVVS Raffle should go, and Philip
had nominated the local Brooklands School in Reigate for children
between the ages of 3 and 11 with multiple difficulties for whom we
raised nearly £400. A worth while, a most enjoyable and superb evening
was had by all!
