Once a year the Surrey
Vintage Vehicle Society has a Summer Saunter which involves a drive to a
point of interest where we then have lunch and while away the afternoon.
This year our Chairman Malcolm Bailey had organised a cracker. The visit
was to the double moated Hever Castle in Kent which was the childhood home
of Anne Boleyn, Henry the 8th second wife and mother of Elisabeth
1st. The visit coincided with the Hever Castle "Cars at the
Castle" day when Hever had invited 15 various car clubs to exhibit
their vehicles on the castle lawns. The SVVS had the pride of place
location on the Main Lawn hill looking over the grounds. The weather was
fabulous with a mottled sky which makes it difficult to take good
pictures. We had a relatively good turnout of 21 cars which could have
been greatly increased had our Members been aware of just how great
the event was, how many hundreds of cars were attending and the interesting
mix of ages and makes of cars there. |
