[ SVVS Summer Picnic, Betchworth - August 2012 ]
::
We would very much like to thank Paul and Patrick of Royce Motors in Betchworth
for allowing us to use their field which had been especially cut
for the second time because the grass had grown too long in the
meantime. It was most unfortunate that despite the BBC weather forecast
promising wall-to-wall sunshine, and the hottest day of the year so far,
directly on arrival we were greeted by almighty spectacular flashes of
lightning directly overhead and by a deafening thunderstorm with
stairrod rain deluge, which had everybody firmly ensconced in their wet
and humid cars for a while. The very same thing happened the last time
we came here!!
Fortunately the clouds cleared just as quickly as they had arrived
and the sun shone brightly and hot for the rest of the afternoon.
Unfortunately the cloudburst had occurred just when Chris Cuss had got
the barbecue hotdogs ready, so there weren't many takers and he was left
with bangers and rolls to spare. Many thanks to Chris and the catering
department (Brian Lloyd-Jacob) for all the effort in getting the gear and provisions
to the site and for the cooking. Thanks also go to Chas and Janet Moody
who took over the equally important task of organising and dolling out
the vino this year. Some 25 cars came which
was a half down on numbers the last time we came here. The photos by 'O'Akes
the Photo' (Tony Oakes). Please click on any thumbnail picture below to see the full size
