The Surrey Oaks in Newdigate is a timeless English country pub with low beams and gloomy lighting with small alcoves in the old bit, and a current restaurant in the newish bit. It is usually one of the better attended of our venues because it is famed for its selection of real ales and ciders, and also has its own wood fired pizza oven! The weather has historically been quite good here but on this occasion it started out gloomy with promise of rain. Rain did not materialise but it did remain generally gloomy which did deter some of our Members from attending. In the final analysis we had 25 proper cars including a number of local 'hot rods', - which was not too bad. We were also unexpectedly joined by a batch of enthusiastic farmers who came in a swarm of antique tractors to celebrate one of their number's birthday. Some of the tractors were in a very 'oily rag' condition indeed, and some had not seen one for yonks !
