The Blindley Heath Tractor Fest was held at the Osney Lodge Farm, South
Godstone, all in aid of the Brooklands School for children with additional needs. Last
year it was held at the
'Jolly Farmer Pub'
just down the road where it was much
more informal but seemed better attended. This even was well organised with
stalls and amusements but seemed to have attracted less public, possibly due to
the iffy weather. What was also missing, and which was quite a draw at Jolly
Farmer, was the massed display of Classic Cars bought in by the public. The Tractor fest is an event devoted to the implement
most often seen but not fully noticed, a humble Tractor. These days many
tractors are no longer humble, but are massive machines brimming with
computer wizardry and satellite navigation! Some of the larger more
complex tractors cost in excess of £250,000 !! Fortunately not all local
farmers can afford tractors of this type so bought along their more normal
every-day machines. Other than at agricultural/county
shows where only brand new machinery is seen, it is not often that such a wide
range of tractors both old and new can be seen assembled at one place. All the tractors went on a parade
through the local lanes for quite a long drive to be seen by local neighbours.
It was quite a sight. Some tractors on show were quite historical, but most had
signs of just having come out of a field following harvesting! - Or
neglect ?
