2017 CHRISTMAS
SOCIAL
Photos below are by Bozi Mohacek, taken
on the IPhone. Surprisingly good results as no flash was used so as not
to be intrusive and not to blind people. Unfortunately the photos have
had to be adjusted for lightness and are a bit grainy. Please click on any thumbnail picture below to

Janet and Chas Moody were gallantly volunteered to dispense the
beverage and take in the money, - which they did admirably!!

Having done a trial run last year, Mrs Chairman advised she would not be
adverse to holding the SVVS Christmas Social again at Church Farm. As
the Church Warden of the adjacent St Mary's for many years, Mrs Chairman, and long
suffering husband, have held numerous functions at the
Farm so Mrs Chairman is well versed in mass catering. We therefore agreed that we
would welcome everybody to the Farm where we can accommodate about
50/60 people. As it is
not possible to use the Tithe Barn at this time of year due to the cold,
the event would be held in the house.
We had
requested for everybody to advise us in advance of their intention to
attend. We were
very pleased that 65 people accepted the invitation, and we were very
close to having to turn people down. Fortunately due to a number of late
cancellations, everybody was accommodated at a final number of 56
attendees.
Janet and Chas Moody had volunteered to look after the admissions and to serve the
drinks. We had laid on ample quantities of two types of red and two
types of white wines and choice of about ten types of bottled and canned
beers and lagers.
Julie had managed to lay on quite a spread and, as a result of her
protestations, I will not be mentioning the extent of the delicacies on
offer, although pictures tell the story. There was an awful lot of grub and with the help of Michael
Harvey, who acted as late-onset waiter, we managed to clear most of it.
One of the worries of home catering is that hubby ends up eating sarnies
and sausages rolls for days after ! The evening was finished
up with buttered stollen cake, a tradition started by Jacqui and Derek
Wright, regretfully absent due illness.
At the end of the evening our Publicity Officer Tony Russell thanked
Julie and Bozi Mohacek for volunteering the Farm as the venue to
hold the Christmas Social, and thanked Julie for
single-handedly preparing the food. Julie was presented with an enormous
bunch of flowers and Bozi with a bottle of plonk as thanks for their
efforts.
