:: [ SVVS
Evening Meeting - Three Horseshoes, Sidlow - August 2003 ] ::
So our four summer evening meetings
have drawn to their close. Weather wise it has been one of the best
summers on record and we have all enjoyed being out and about in our
proper cars. This means that more cars than ever turned up for our
meetings which made recording then all correctly far from easy. Last
year 33 vehicles were recorded at this venue and this year it was
the same number plus one latecomer.

[ Edenbridge & Oxted Show - Historic Car Display - August 2003 ] ::
This year’s Edenbridge & Oxted Show
had over 50,000 visitors enjoying quite good weather. It was not as
stiflingly hot as it had been for quite a few weeks before and for
some time after. Uncharacteristically for this summer, but not for
this show, it was overcast and was threatening to rain, and rain had
not been seen all summer!!! Full house of both Classic and
Vintage vehicles as usual with quite high number of SVVS Members.

[ SVVS Family Summer Picnic, South Nutfield - August 2003 ] ::
The Great SVVS Summer Picnic was held
this year on a very hot day at Priory Farm beside the rather lovely
lake at South Nutfield where about 30 SVVS cars
displayed around the field. Once again it was
a great success with weather which was quite perfect. Location was
adjacent to Redhill Air Show resulting in some great displays of
aerobatics being put on for our benefit. The BBMF Spitfire,
Hurricane & Nimrod paid a visit.

[ The Lingfield Steam and Country Show, Lingfield - August 2003 ]
::
The Lingfield Steam and Country
Show is now at its new regular venue at the Blue Anchor Show site and
appears to be going from strength to strength. It
has always been known for a good display of Steam Traction Engines,
Steam Rollers and Steam Lorries, and this year was no exception. As
usual, also present were numerous Tractors, Lorries, Busses,
Motorbikes, Military Vehicles, Fire Engines and numerous cars.

:: [ Ardingly
Vintage Vehicle Show - Ardingly, Sussex - July
2003 ] ::
The Ardingly Show is not one that is
noted in the SVVS calendar but is a Show that is attended by a
number of our Members including our regular 'snapper' Tony Oakes who
once again provided lots of photos and details. The Ardingly
Show has many classes of vehicles including steam traction
engines, veteran, vintage and classic cars, caravans, motorcycles,
fire engines, vans, commercials, tractors and machinery.

:: [ SVVS
Evening Meeting - The Six Bells, Horley - June 2003 ] ::
What an outstanding venue this was. An old world pub situated at the
end of a narrow lane, adjacent to a church yet within sight of the
Gatwick hotels. There were tables behind the pub on a lawn that ran
down to the River Mole. Another bonus for us was that the car park
had space for about 150 cars so for once we did not cause any parking
chaos. And to round things off, it was a beautiful summer’s
evening.

[ "Cream Tea Run" - Knight's Garden, Woldingham - June
2003
]
::
Once again, the SVVS "Cream
Tea" was a huge success, even the weather was quite perfect.
Some 18 cars were paraded on the lawn of Knight's Garden Centre. Equally
importantly, the cream tea was, as ever, excellent. We were ushered
to our reserved room through the front door and through the elegant entrance hall so that we could
admire the fine architecture and magnificent decoration of the
house.

:: [ SVVS
Visit to the Imperial War Museum, Duxford - April 2003 ] ::
Following a successful coach trip to visit the Enigma museum at
Bletchley Park, this year's journey took us to the Imperial War Museum's
aviation collection at Duxford, a former World War II fighter station
near Cambridge. Sited on an airfield, the museum's aircraft
collection is housed in five hangers, and also in separate
buildings which house the American Air Museum and the Military Vehicle
collection.

[ SVVS
Dinner - Reigate Hill Hotel, Reigate - February
2003 ]
::
After the great success of our Annual Dinner
last year held at the Reigate Hill Hotel it was decided to repeat the
venue for this year's event, which proved just as successfully. The highlight of the evening was the speech
given by Helen Tempest the very experienced Wingwalker and Operations
Director of Aerosuperbatics, the St Ivel "Utterly Butterly" Aerobatics
Team who fly Boeing Stearmen biplanes.

:: [ New Year's Day - Fox-on-the-Hill, Lower Kingswood -
January ] ::
We have met for a noggin and a natter at Fox in Lower Kingswood
for a number of years now on each New Year's Day, so much so that
it is now an 'official' event. The weather was absolutely
atrocious with non-stop rain and serious flooding throughout
southern England. Many roads in our patch were flooded and
impassable. The turnout of 'proper' cars was therefore restricted
and why some Members came out in 'moderns'. |
