SVVS AT THE BLACK HORSE SUNDAY 5TH NOVEMBER
Tony Russell

The annual London to Brighton veteran car run is always a highlight in our world of vintage and classic cars. The world's longest running motoring event for cars built before 1905 to celebrate the emancipation of the motor car, when in 1896 the 'Locomotives on Highways Act' of Parliament raised the speed limit on roads from 4mph to 14mph. The very first "Emancipation Run" was held in that year, revived in 1927. the event has taken place almost year since then attracting entrants from all over the world.

By tradition our club has held a post run lunchtime meeting at the Black Horse pub at Hookwood near Gatwick. This year we had 11 'proper' cars in attendance and the weather was kind to us. It was good to see Chairman Malcolm with Sheena in their 1975 Opel Manta, Clive and Myetta arrived in their newly acquired 1948 Austin 16, Chas in his 1972 Lancia Fulvia coupe, Andy with his 1930 Ford Model A Tudor saloon, Roger in his 1973 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Doug and Carol also with a newly acquired 1975 NSU RO 80, Nick and James with yet another new car, a 1997 Jaguar XK8. Arthur arrived in his 2007 MG ZT, Andy with his lovely 1935 Frazer Nash Shelsley and John in his 1979 Riley RMC. Alan rode in aboard his 1930 600cc Douglas T6 motorcycle.

Many thanks to Chas for listing the attendees. A very pleasant meeting, and Nandi the PR Labradoodle enjoyed munching the free dog biscuits!
