 :: [ CORONA VIRUS HAD CANCELLED SOME SVVS 2021-22 MEETINGS ] ::
Coronavirus Pandemic had been playing havoc with large parts of the world and had resulted in alterations to our activities for over two years. The successful British Vaccination Programme has resulted in the lifting of restrictions and the re-start of  our meetings. Details of our proposed plans are on our MAP & DATES PAGE. However, a new major outbreak is occurring in China which may well spread back over here and possibly affect our activities. Any sudden programme changes would be announced on the CLUB PAGE (URL is published in the SVVS Magazine). In the event of prolonged shutdowns to our Meetings, we will be providing the 'This Year's Event Page' with  motoring related articles.

SVVS Christmas Social - December 2023

     :: [   SVVS   Christmas   Social,   Horne      -     December  2023 ::
Second Christmas Social in the same year due to frozen pipes and postponement end of last year. This year's event was again held Chez Mr. & Mrs. President, Julie and Bozi Mohacek. Julie again did all the food catering and Chas and Janet Moody again did the deinks. We had 66 people book-in for the event and only three no-shows. A pleasing improvement on the 50 last time. Publicity Officer Tony Russell thanked Julie and Bozi by presenting Julie with a potted plant, and Bozi with bottle of wine. Julie's Alzheimer Raffle. contributed £235 to their cause.

SVVS Post-LBVCR Meetinf at Black Horse

  :: [ SVVS at Hookwood after Brighton Veteran Run - November 2023] ::
Some SVVS Members who have been spectating on the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run traditionally meet up later at the Black Horse in Hookwood for a noggin and natter.  Four of our Members partook in the Run proper with their veterans. This year the weather on the Run was kinder to us than the deluge we had  last year when we got only three cars to meet at Black Horse. This year sunshine and blue skies throughout the whole day and we had 11 'proper' cars in attendance .

SVVS Lunchtime Meet at Red Barn, Lingfield

     ::[ SVVS Lunchtime Meet at Red Barn, Lingfield - October  2023] ::
The Red Barn at Blindley Heath is our last outside mid-month meeting of the year and signals that Christmas and New Year are not far away. This year the weather forecast promised nice and sunny, and gave us just as promised, - a lovely sunny day with blue skies, and with temperatures which at times were almost uncomfortably hot. Definite shirtsleeves weather, This year we had 34 interesting vehicles on display, although some not ours, and two motorcycles, down nine vehicles on last year.

  ::[ SVVS Lunchtime Meeting, The Star - Lingfield -  September  2023] ::
After many weeks of near drought in the latter part of the summer, the weather chose our two svvs hours on the Sunday lunchtime to break and deposit significant bits of the Atlantic over Lingfield. The Star in Lingfield in any case signals that the 'summer season' is drawing to a close, which is a bit of a shame. The weather for most of the Summer this year was great and it is a shame it had to end with a splash. The turnout of cars was predictably low, some 10 proper vehicles, down eleven on last year.

 SVVS Display at the Reigate Tunnel

         ::[ SVVS Display at the Reigate Tunnel -  September  2023] ::
The SVVS again displayed our vintage and classic vehicles in the Reigate Old Tunnel supporting National Heritage Open Day Scheme. It seems Reigate is no longer putting much effort into the event. In the old days the event had local stands selling things, loads of bunting, and music from local bands playing in the street. This time the Caves being open meant we did not have whole of the Tunnel to ourselves, and the town was hosting a Gay Pride march. We had a turnout of 16 proper cars.

SVVS Evening Meeting, Fox Revived, Norwood Hill

 :: [ SVVS Evening Meeting, Fox Revived, Norwood Hill - August 2023 ] ::
The Fox Revived is a thriving busy pub and highly popular eatery so that the standard tarmacked car park is generally entirely packed with no spare spaces for us. Fortunately, they have an overflow paddock which we take over. We had a turnout of 35 vehicles, up three on last year, mostly from the 'classic' age group, including Jaguar, Lancia, MG, Chrysler, Ford, Austin, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Frazer Nash, Mercedes, VW, Daimler, Commer, Marlin BMW, and Ducati; Good evening all round!

SVVS at Edenbridge & Oxted Show - Ardenrun

:: [ SVVS at Edenbridge & Oxted Show - Ardenrun  - August 2023] ::
Edenbidge and Oxted Show takes place at the Ardenrun Showground, just off the A22 at Blindley Heath, over two days of the August Bank Holiday. It is generally attended by some 40,000 people over the Sunday and Monday, and is primarily a Country Show dedicated to country pursuits. SVVS has been associated with the show since the move to Arderun and has generally provided many of the of cars on both days of the show. Recently the predominance has been  'classics'.

SVVS Summer Picnic - Church Farm, Horne

:: [ SVVS Summer Picnic - Church Farm, Horne - August 2023] ::
The Great SVVS Summer Picnic was held again  this year at  Church Farm at the invitation of Julie and Bozi Mohacek, combining with Bozi’s delayed 80th birthday celebrations, with usual free glass of wine and hot dog; wine supplied courtesy of the SVVS and Hotdogs supplied by Messers President. Mrs. President's young catering team had cooked and distributed 60 Hotdogs and 50 Hamburgers, which ties in with 110 or so people that attended in 54 vehicles, this is up by 39 cars on last year.

 SVVS Summer Saunter to Newdigate Village Day

  :: [ SVVS Summer Saunter to Newdigate Village Day  -  July 2023] ::
Once a year the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society has a Summer Saunter which involves a drive to a point of interest where we then have lunch and while away the afternoon. This year's run was from selected start points via five suggested routes and Norwood Hill to Newdigate Village Day where the SVVS, along with other clubs, had been invited to display vehicles. After some ominous clouds on the day, only a brief shower interrupted some glorious sunshine, and resulted in a nice show of cars.

  :: [ SVVS Evening Meet - Bletchingley Arms, Bletchingley -  July 2023] ::
The Plough re-branded Bletchingley Arms is on the A25 with lots of passing traffic and, when the weather is fine, it draws our best, or second best, attendance of the year. Today Death Valley temperature 55 C, but weather here had been forecast, and was, grim and gloomy for most of the time. It started raining at 5pm, and simply continued. Those not there by 6pm were not going to bother. Last year we had some 43 vehicles; this year there were only16 SVVS cars and 25 SVVS Members.

SVVS at Leigh Country Fayre Flower Show, Leigh

    :: [ SVVS at Leigh Country Fayre Flower Show, Leigh  -  July 2023] ::
Regular annual 'visiting' meeting for the SVVS by kind invitation of the organisers to add to the attractions. Unfortunately the weather reverted to type and provided vast quantity of persistent wet rain, which did reduce the attendance of our vehicle to only a handful of cars. Our primary attendee, Russell the Publicity officer, abandoned ship at 2.30 and somehow managed to still get soaked in his Convertible Ford Popular despite roof never having been down.  The MG Club did better.

SVVS Lunchtime Meet - The Bull Inn, Chelsham

   :: [  SVVS Lunchtime Meet - The Bull Inn, Chelsham  -  July 2023 ] ::
Second  visit to this venue which was at the suggestion of our Editor Malcolm Ward who arrived early, and acted as a very efficient steward. The pub had arranged for us to display our vehicles on grass of the adjacent Chelsham Common where there were the beginnings of showing of the signs of the current lack of rain spell. Last year the grass was yellow and dead.  We had a half of last year's numbers attending, at some 11 vehicles,  mainly due to other major events happening locally.

SVVS at HCVS Bring-a-Car meeting, Newchapel

      :: [  SVVS at HCVS Bring-a-Car meeting,  Newchapel  -  July 2023 ] ::
The Historic Commercial Vehicle Society and the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society had many links in the early days and many original and current members of the SVVS, who have commercial vehicles, are also members of the HCVS. This venue in Newchappel is new to the HCVS and it was a great success, with plenty of room for future expansion. The entry/parking was free to the public and many came in their vintage and classic machinery including quite a large contingent from the SVVS.

 SVVS Evening Meeting - Six Bells Horley

      :: [  SVVS Evening Meeting - Six Bells Horley   -  June 2023] ::
The Six Bells at Horley has been on our calendar for ages and comes with some notable history relative to our visits here. One year no beer as had no glasses, another we found them closed due to a murder hunt, so we got beer from Tesco and served from back of a Rolls Royce. Yet another year no beer, largely because the kitchen had caught alight and and the pub had burnt down. This year we were not allowed to take the beer into the car park where our 41 vehicles and grumpy partners were located?

SVVS at The Wednesday Wander, Forrest Green

      :: [  SVVS at The Wednesday Wander, Forrest Green -  June 2023 ] ::
The "Wednesday Wander" is a invitation event that had in the past been organised by SVVS members regretfully passed away. The run discontinued during the Covid era. Currently taken up by Andy Harding and Tony Oakes. The Wednesday Wander is a non-competitive 'tulip' event intended for 'vintage era cars, this year between coffee at The Pheasant at Buckland and finishing for lunch at the Parrot at Forrest Green. The Parrot provided an excellent lunch which beat the entrants.

SVVS Lunchtime Meeting, The Surrey Oaks, Newdigatew

   :: [  SVVS Lunchtime Meet - Surrey Oaks, Newdigate  -  June 2023 ] ::
She Surrey Oaks in Newdigate is a timeless English country pub with low beams  in the old bit, and a restaurant in newish bit. It is usually one of the better attended of our venues because it is famed for its selection of real ales and ciders. The weather  was perfect. It is the local 'watering hole' for our Publicity Officer Tony Russell whose other main passion is Hot-Rods. So a number of his mates came along. Final analysis, we had 44 vehicles at the venue, not all cars were ours, but not all of the  'rods'.

SVVS Evening Meet - Skimmington Castle, Reigate

      :: [ SVVS Evening Meet - Skimmington Castle, Reigate - May 2023 ] ::
Skimmington Castle is a Public House just off Reigate Heath with very good beer and food, and is normally crammed. We have bought forward our event starting time for summer evening meetings to benefit from the daylight and to allow return home during 'daylight'. We had a grand total of 61 members present; 46 were eligible vehicles relative to the Register and five newer Classics, some cars  not seen before, and some Members came in moderns, despite some having started out in oldies.

SVVS Lunchtime Meet - Dog & Duck, Outwood

      :: [ SVVS Lunchtime Meet - Dog & Duck, Outwood - May 2023 ] ::
The Dog & Duck used to be our headquarters for the Winter Meetings but the Covid Epidemic changed the local scene and we have moved on. This remains a Sunday Lunchtime outside venue where this year we had a good turnout of some 21 cars on a rescheduled date due potential clashes. In the event, the Historic Commercials Run to Brighton had been cancelled, as was the local waterlogged Cow Pie Country Show. Dog & Duck is traditionally blessed with good weather, as was this time.

SVVS Annual Treasure Hunt

      :: [ SVVS Treasure Hunt &  Black Horse, Hook wood - April 2023 ] ::
The 2023 Treasure Hunt combines the regular April pub meet at the Black Horse in Hookwood, with the SVVS Treasure Hunt and the Drive-it-Day. The Treasure Hunt was organised by last winners Anne and Matt Tester and started at their interesting home where they provided coffees and Bacon Butties! The  Hunt is a case of driving to a specified location, parking, and walking to find the answers to clues defined by questionnaire.  The  SVVS  Winner was Gavin Tester, so stays in family.

SVVS Dinner - Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate

        :: [ SVVS Dinner - Reigate Manor Hotel, Reigate - April 2023 ] ::
Reigate Manor Hotel was again the venue for the Annual SVVS Dinner and was superbly officiated over by our Chairman Malcolm Bailey and his wife Sheena. This year the event was held in the slightly smaller 'Garden Room' which seems to have a slightly more intimate feel than the main ballroom we usually have for larger number of our Members. The Dinner was attended by about 67 which was a table less than last year, but showed that Members were still keen on annual get-together.

SVVS Lunchtime Meeting at the Sportsman, Mogador

   :: [ SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - Sportsman, Mogadore - March  2023] ::
Last year our new Chairman Malcolm Bailey had tested positive for having contracted Covid. This year our new President Bozi Mohacek had tested positive for Covid. The weather was equally unpleasant at it usually is here with a muddy car park interspersed with large puddles of water. Normally it snows/hails when we visit. This time the snow held off until the next day; - and closed the Midlands and Scotland for a bit. Our turnout was therefore modest thirteen proper cars and moderns.

SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - The Cock at Hedley

:: [ SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - The Cock at Hedley - Febeuary 2023 ] ::
This venue was chosen specifically to please our 'western' members wanting a 'local' pub, - who were here noticeable by their almost total absence. Weather continued its tradition of being very iffy and did not disappoint; drizzle, damp but not cold. Pub continues to be dog friendly even to a baby Bernese. Seems a bit less customer friendly with new regulations about tables and drinking and food; - so resulted in tyre-kicking by members outside with reasonable turnout of fifteen cars.

SVVS New Year's Meeting, Reigate

:: [ New Year's Day Lunchtime - Beehive, Woodhatch - January 2023 ] ::
New Year's Day 2023 blossomed dull, damp and grey, and there were traces of floods locally, so Mrs President drove Mr President just in case. Despite the iffy weather no rain or floods were encountered and,  The Beehive was already packed to triple-parking with SVVS cars. The final number from our bean-counter Chas Moody advised a very respectful turnout of some 29 proper cars, one bicycle, and few moderns discretely scattered in the local streets, a very similar number coming as last year.

Delayed SVVS 2022 Christmas Social

:: [ SVVS Christmas Social  December 2022 - Delayed to January 2023 ] ::
Due to three burst pipes Chez Mohaceks at three separate locations during lead-up to Christmas, and because freezing snow, it was decided to postpone the Christmas Social to Friday January 6th 2023. It took place, after a few years gap due to Covid, again at Chez Mr & Mrs President, Julie and Bozi Mohacek. Julie did all the food catering again, and Chas and Janet Moody dispensed the drinks and took the money. We had 50 people attending, but colds and flus accounted for 10 no-shows.
