SVVS Evening Meeting, Fox
Revived - Norwood Hill

"The right crowd and no crowding", so it was said of
Brooklands back in the 1930's, a place to gather with friends, socialise and
admire the magnificent cars racing on the track. There was no racing at our
club meeting on Wednesday 30th August but plenty of splendid cars to admire
and friends to meet up with and chat to, just as it should be.
I counted 35 'proper ' cars which comfortably filled the field behind the
pub without overcrowding, the range of SVVS vehicles was impressive .
Jaguar, Lancia, MG, Chrysler, Ford, Austin, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Frazer
Nash, Mercedes, VW, Daimler, Commer, Marlin BMW, and a lovely 1974 Ducati
Desmo 250 motorcycle. I don't usually have favourites, but was particularly
taken by Peter's superb 1951 Jaguar XK 120. Team Tutt's 1952 Ford E493A was
running in its newly rebuilt 1172cc sidevalve engine, founder member Clive
and his wife Myetta had driven all the way up from Hampshire in their 1933
Austin 10 to join us, good to see our young member Ben at the helm of
David's 1931 Rolls Royce 20/25.
President Bozi cruised in aboard the red 1984 Jaguar XJS V12 and busied
himself taking lots of photos for the website and magazine, he left early as
Mrs. President had given him strict instructions not to drive at night,
quite right too, she who must be obeyed! Chas was busy distributing our
current magazines and signed up a very welcome new member Chris, we look
forward to seeing his 1971 Triumph Stag soon.
Your PR Officer must have been in literally hundreds of different cars, but
that evening he much enjoyed a first. Friend , neighbour and member John
kindly offered to give me a lift to the meeting in his wonderful 1969 VW
Westfalia camper van, I had never been in one before and it was brilliant ,
seated just above the front wheels it's hard to describe the sensation, but
a unique sound from the lusty rear mounted air cooled engine, plenty of
squeaks and odd rattles within the surprisingly roomy and well equipped
cabin and a ride rather like a small yacht was great fun, many thanks John.
