Over the years that we
have been visiting this pub, there has always been the possibility of a
little drama. One year they ran out of beer, another time it was a
shortage of glasses. Then they had to close when their Chef was arrested
for murder! More recently the pub suffered a catastrophic fire. Last year
we were shocked to receive a verbal reprimand from an over zealous barman
who came to the car park and shouted that we were not allowed to bring our
drinks out to our cars! We were threatened with non-service! This year the
bar was so packed all evening, only a lucky few members ever reached the
bar to be served! The car park situation was similar, with customer's
modern cars jostling for space in 'our' end of the car park! Apparently, a
football match in an adjacent field had been to blame.
Nothing deters our
members from creating our usual incredibly varied display of vintage and
classic vehicles. The one that stole our view as we entered was John's '44
Chevrolet military truck in US army livery. It was in the company of two
army Jeeps to complete the scene. Other vehicles of interest were Tom's
'68 Renault 4 police car, Roger's '46 HRG, Andy's '29 Amilcar, Ross's '53
Triumph 500 motorcycle, Simon's '27 Singer 6, and Doug's '75 NSU Ro80 with
the correct rotary engine. Doug advises; to keep these engines sweet, run
them on diluted two-stroke! Zack's '55 Ford 100E, back on the road, at
last! I could go on, all the vehicles were of interest. I'll let the
photos continue the story.
We thank Chas for handing out our magazines
from his yellow box. Thanks to all those who came along, about 54 members,
in ancient or modern!
