De Dion Bouton 8HP
Another from number of interesting period photos from a glass
negative from our regular contributor Alun Pugh (UK).
-- No history provided with the
photo but it sems to be some sort of open motoring with large public
attendance competition locally and in the background. It is possible
that the photo survives not because of the car but because of the lady
at the back, front left, with cross above her. The car is a cca
1903 De Dion Bouton 8HP Registered
1904 at Leeds CBC.

are being investigated by IMCDB. Story is about three daughters of a
small town pharmacist making their ways through their marriages at the
time of Theodor Roosevelt election 1904. -- The
car has a very large 'radiator' at the front suggesting it is a
condenser. The flutes on the side and the wire grille sides confirm it

De Dion Bouton 6HP 'Tourer'
Interesting photos posted on the Rootschat Forum which were part
of a collection of glass slides trying to trace previous owners. --
Registration CP 382 was Norwich Borough Council 1907. The hyphen
between letters and numbers was mandatory by law. Clearly visible are
de Dion Bouton steering wheel and two free standing so probably a cca
1905 De Dion Bouton, 6HP engine. The
body is quite fascinating, possibly unique, in having only the single
driver's front seat and side door. READ

Itala 50'65 Torpedo
Interesting photo posted on the AACA Forum by 64pontiac asking
for information on the make of vehicle from a batch of 'misidentified'
photos. -- This is also an Itala and from rounded
mudguards, circular air vent and wheel discs could have been upgrade
from other Itala. Our Ariejan Bos advises photos are from late Tim
Harding who collected photos with a British interest. Photo in UK.
Unlikely same car as acetylene lights, and is cca

Itala 50'65 Torpedo
Interesting photo posted on the AACA Forum by 64pontiac asking
for information on the make of vehicle from a batch of misidentified
photos. -- This is an Itala with the curly Itala
logo rather than the later plain oval. It has electric lights
suggesting earliest cca 1913. It seems to have a quite long bonnet so
is relatively powerful. Wings with splashguards suggest pre-war as do
the electric headlamps. My suggestion is cca
1913'14 Itala probably 50'65 Torpedo.

Renault DM 11HP Torpedo
Damaged photo from Robert Haigh on Rootschat forum asking for
date of car driven by Grandfather. -- We repaired
photo. Renault Coalscuttle bonnet. Radiator was internal after 1919.
The short bonnet so a smaller power car. Leading edge of radiator is
rounded, no earlier than 1911. Scuttle body section behind the rad.
Windscreen is relatively small. Fuel filler cap in the scuttle. The
latter suggests a cca
1913 Renault Model DM 11HP Torpedo Tourer.
The date of photo cannot be earlier. MORE..

Wolseley 19'20 Tourer
Another interesting photo received from Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) from a forum of old photos asking for identification of
vehicle . Is it a Wolseley? - - This does indeed
seem a Wolseley of the pre-WW1 period from the appearance of the
bodywork without driver's doorand for having acetylene lights. Tall
header, no logo, shortish bonnet likely four rather than a six cylinder
car, so cca
1913 Wolseley 19'20 Tourer open drive
with rather interesting enclosed rear section and convertible roof.

Maltby Charabanc
Another interesting period photo received from Hillary Roach (USA)
working on family tree and has found photos of Grandfather's

of champagner and that he also started first bus company in Folkestone.
- The picture shows him in a light
suit by a cca
1913 Maltby Charabanc but we have not
been able to find any connection between Mr Porter and early Folkestone
charabanc bus operations. READ

Studebaker Model SD Touring
Puzzling Photo received from Nicky Scowen (UK).
We were concerned by oval numberplate, probably illegal in UK, in case
it came from the Colonies. Confirmed however that Nicky is trying to
identify the family outside a pub, The Harrow, in Chadwell Heath, now
Essex. - - If so, the registration was therefore
indeed issued by Essex CBC in 1915. Car is American, a cca
1915 Studebaker Model SD touring, date
confirmed by no petrol filler cap on scuttle, dropped end 1914, no earlier.

Ford Model TT Van
Another from number of interesting period photos from a glass
negative from our regular contributor Alun Pugh (UK).
-- Birmingham Post delivery van with headline we cannot make out. Also
not helping dating is the chap in front of the bonnet which could tell
more. However, the shape of the scuttle suggests a Ford
Model T Van
(1918-1928) and the angled struts leading to the rear wheels that it is
the extended TT version. The circular glass side window suggest a year
of about 1924.

OM Tippo 665S Torpedo
Interesting photo posted on the AACA Forum by Parud asking
for make of car his great grandfather and great aunts are in, in
Germany? -- First thoughts Italian or Teutonic.
Both had sidelights below head-lamps. Not British. Large white oval
nameplate on the radiator top. We repaired photo so now relatively
confident this is Italian cca

This type of car won class at Le Mans by filling all first five places

Bean 14HP Tourer
Another from a number of interesting period photos from a glass
negative from our regular contributor Alun Pugh of Leeds (UK).
-- Difficult angle of a difficult car in an unusual location of a car
being in Flood Water, in Stirchley, Birmingham, July 11th 1927.
Numberplate had been retouched on the letter P valmost hiding the
preceding N, which makes it a Worcester CC issue. The bonnet appears
slightly bell shaped and car has all the sign of being a cca

Streamliner Cab
Another couple of interesting puzzling
photo from a forum of car photos asking for information on the make of

experimenting with streamliners in both Europe and USA and a number of mainstream
cars were airflowed. In addition a

WW1 Lorry
Another from a number of interesting period photos from a glass
negative from our regular contributor Alun Pugh of Leeds (UK).

from the back with most identifying pointers covered over with bunting.
Lorry was part of fleet owned by Explosive Trades group of companies
which changed the name to Nobel Explosives and closed BM&M down
1920. Unknown lorry
seems possibly peopled by 'munitionettes'? Help
