:: [  SVVS  NATIONAL  AND   INTERNATIONAL  INFORMATION  ASSISTANCE SERVICE  ] ::

The SVVS Website currently receives approximately 500,000 hits a year and the "HELP PAGE" is internationally the most visited 'page' on the site. We receive numerous e-mails from historians and motoring enthusiasts from all over the world with the request to identify vehicles from old photographs. We can help with identification of Classic cars because most of us are old enough to remember them as new, and owning Vintage photo  or Veteran vehicles, many of us, and/or our associates, are also specialists in own make or type of vehicle  -   These Help Pages are therefore devoted to some of the interesting enquiries received, and information that we have provided.  While page is being built, enquiries are in received order, - when completed,  cars are in year order:

Please note that if you are submitting an enquiry, we will assume that we have your permission
that we can publish the photo, background story to it, and your name and country calling from.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: 1902 Peugeot 10CV Tonneau
One from a selection of very interesting but unidentified photos from the personal collection of Jason Palmer in Melbourne (Australia). Photo came from Germany. -- Bit surprising as it looks French and I thought CGV but Ariejan Bos advises first that the photo needs flipping horisonataly as car would not have LH steering. The car seems a cca 1902 Peugeot Tonneau, but it is almost impossible in those years to determine the exact model. Probably Type 39, 10CV, with long chassis!

1902 Peugeot 10CV Tonneau

Phelps Had previously designed a steam tractor steered by reigns so coachmen could drive them. SEE MORE HISTORY

1905 Phelps 20HP Tonneau and 1901 Steam Tractor

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: Probably c1907_FIAT_Tourer
Puzzling photo received from Kelvin Briggs (UK) taken by local photographer in Alderley, Cheshire. -- Debatable. Initial thoughts. not big car, likely FIAT. It is either a cca1907 FIAT or similar age SCAT, both from Turin, which were remarkably similar down to the makers plate under passenger window. We asked for enlargement of plate but no answer. Ariejan Bos is tending towards the SCAT due rad filler cap and crank handle, and I am tending, from maker,s plate perhaps, FIAT.

Probably c1907_FIAT_Tourer

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: 1950 Ford V8 Fordor Sedan
Photo received indirectly of a friend's father's first car. -- American Ford new for the 1949/50 seasons with a 1950 Ontario plate. Badge rather than separate FORD letters; both dating to 1950. Has rear side window quarter light, suggesting a four-door , not coupe or two-door. The bullet chrome centre of the grille would have a 6 or 8 figure; unsure, but seems an 8, which would make it 3.9L V8 rather than a 3.7 straight 6. So summarising, cca 1950 Ford V8 Fordor Custom Deluxe Sedan.
