IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1906 Daimler 28 Landaulette &Tourer
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by
John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. This one was labeled' Daimlers in Blackpool.'.
-- Both
cars have the tie rod ahead of the front axle so pre-1906; by 1906'7
they were behind the axle. Both have a straight bottom to the rad
rather than curved so also pre 1906. Left car has 12 spokes. They look
very similar in size, both being a mid range car so would be a cca
1905'6 Daimler 28HP Landaulette on
left and a cca 1905 Tourer on right.

Enfield 15HP Tourer

Zealand) is trying to identify the
vehicle posted on an NZ Facebook, Grand Hotel Aucland. Is it an Enfield,
and what date. --
Distinctive badge of a sideways cannon
as used by Royal Enfield bicycles, motorcycles and cars. This type of
radiator shape was used for only a short period on the cca
1907 Enfield Tourer which came in a 15HP
and a 25HP version. Soon after in 1908, Enfield was taken over by
Alldays & Onions becoming Enfield-Alldays.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: 1907
Enfield 15HP Tourer
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by
John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. Newtown Motor Garage, Pool Road, Newtown, Powys,
Wales. It looks like another Merioneth registration. A distinctive
radiator, but what? -- Humber
suggested, but no again. Cannot make out registration, but
low number, so early. Distinctive rad indeed from a company that constantly
changed shape of rad, including circular. Confirmed by Ariejan Bos as a
cca 1907 Enfield, probably 15HP Tourer..

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1907
Daimler 35HP Tourer
Our regular contributor Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) is trying to identify the
vehicle posted on an NZ Facebook, Grand Hotel Aucland. Is it a
Daimler, and what date. --
Indeed car from the British Daimler company founded in London 1896 who
bought right to use German Daimler name. Daimler made numerous engine
size models in period but overall size of the car did not alter much
visually. Largish size car so could be 45HP model but more likely is
cca 1907 Daimler 35HP Tourer.

Yes, this one is a Humber ! Registration FF 53 is Merioneth County Council

car producers, turned to military work and taken over 2012 by Renault,
Has chain drive so probably c1908

Another puzzling photo received from Tom

lovely photo of a three level mall 'sightseeing bus'. Solid roof,
beautifully built coachwork body and not a charabanc. Chain Drive,

away in Manchester and as has a curved scuttle so later cca 1909
Belsize 14'16 Open Tourer.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1909 Sunbeam 14'20 Tourer
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by
John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. This one was labeled Blackpool 1909. Suggestion a
Sunbeam 12'16? -- Certainly
looks a Sunbeam. Photo is marked as 'J Farrer & Son -1909'' perhaps
machinery manufacturer in Sheffield? Car has no chain drive and has a
rounded scuttle. If the photo date is correct then this has to be the
Coalten designed cca
1909 Sunbeam 14'20 Tourer (later
16'40) or perhaps the smaller later 12'16.

Bouton 12HP Tourer
Our Publicity Officer Tony Russell
(UK) seems to be on the lookout for
unusual cars and wondered if we knew what this one was, Found this in
in an old tourist guide book...any ideas? --
First thoughts was De Dion Boutomn but odd
dumbirons. Checked with our Ariejam Bos who had been meaning to do a
search on De Dion dumbirons with front shackles and confirmed De Dion
used them sporradically 1907-11. Biggish car with front doors so
probably a cca 1909 De Dion
Bouton 12HP Tourer.

Our regular contributor Mark Dawber (New

on an NZ Facebook, 'c1914-19 Nurses from the Convalescence Hospital
Springs Flat Whangarei in a Minerva in Bank Street. Model? -- Indeed
a Belgian Minerva quite popular in Britain so known in the 'colonies'.
The wave of the bonnet goes alonf the full way, so pre 1912. The
Scuttle has a bulbous section leading to a flat drop to bonnet so after
1910. This makes it ca1912

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1914 Calcott 10.5 HP Tourer
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by
John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. This one was headed Cars in Cheddar Gorge. -- Cheddar
famous for the cheese and Gorge for Britain's oldest human skeleton
from 9000 years ago. Car too tiny to be fully sure between Standard and
Calcott, but our money is on the Calcott with broader bump and rounded
mudguards. This would seem to be a cca

size model made before World War 1.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: 1914
Sunbeam Sporting 12'16 Tourer
Fascinating but very puzzling photo
received from Phillip Sampson (UK)
asking if we could please identify the car if possible. Photo was taken
in Cheltenham UK c1916. --
Familiar looking vehicle but very strange
radiator. Car suggested Sunbeam, and indeed identified by Ariejan Bos
as a
cca 1914 Sunbeam Sporting 12'16 Tourer,
from an in-depth article in The Automobile February 2001. Better
reference system than mine!! Based on Dieppe 1912 Coup de l'Auto
winning car. Only 100 cars made.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING: Probably
1921 Grey Dort Four Touring
Fascinating and puzzling photo
received from Cathy Stewart (Australia)
curator for the Milton Ulladulla Historical Society (MUHS), on the
South Coast of NSW, asking if we could date and identify car. --
Surprisingly difficult. Sidelights on
wings confuse as does the rounded shape of the top of the rad, but we
now think this could be the Canadian built version of an American car.
Shape of scuttle and bonnet suggest earliest date of cca 1921/22 and
would make this Ontario built Grey
Dort Four 30hp.

1930 Thornycroft A2'FB4 Flatbed
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by
John Davies (UK) looking

apt photo for what has been happening in Britain for the last month.
Nothing new although floods caused my melting snow is not normally a
British problem; rain, yes! Swinton-under-Whychwood is near
Oxford and lorry has Birmingham reg of 1930. The lorry is a Basingstoke

Another puzzling photo received from from Georges

Minerva. All cars have Belgian licence plates --
Second from right
(3) is a British car built by company founded in Coventry 1903.
Car has twin blade bumper, shortish bonnet, no badge bar, wing mounted
headlamps and high level windscreen wipers so is most likely a 1932
Standard Big Nine Saloon.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1934 Chenard Walcker Aigle 8
Lovely photo received from Peter
Klein (UK) taken
in Nice in 1934 of what seems to be a Chenard et
Walcker Aigle 8, but wit bodywork he was not able to match. Had no
reply from C&W website so is trying us. -- Not
specialists on French coachbuilders but C&W cars were bodied by
many renowned companies. This has wire wheels and bulbous rad
suggesting a coachbuilt cca
1934 Aigle 8 14CV Decapotable, similar
to Monte model but later aftermarket mascots and Super-Aigle
bumpers.
