Riley 12'18 Tourer
Another interesting photo received from
Eileen Stokes (UK). Eileen has no
information or link with the photo except that
she knows it was almost certainly taken in UK and is a postcard
curiosity requiring identification. --
Registration when magnified appears to be
BJ 966 which is East Suffolk County Council, issued late 1910. Circular
Radiator and small embossed badge identify it as a cca
1910 Riley 12'18 Tourer. Very
interesting home made circular 'shock-absorber' on front springs.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1911
Brennabor 12PS Torpedo
Cinema screen grab of a Vehicle which appeared in a
French film " Le plus vieux métier du monde" (The Oldest
Profession) made in 1967 where the vehicles are being investigated by
IMCDB. The film is a series of sketches on prostitution through the
ages, this part about Vienna. --
Not much of this car is visible but the shape of the radiator with the
makers logo and bonnet top flutes indicates it is a cca 1911 Brennabor.
Lack of louvers on the bonnet sides suggests probably a 12HP Torpedo.

1914 BSA 13.9 Tourer
Another photo from Tom Cosens (UK)
who says they are postcard curiosities
needing identification. This photo is a British . --
OA 4271 is Birmingham CBC Feb 1913 to
October 1915, so pre WW1. Difficult rear view photo with what seems to
be a worm drive car with three-speed
gearbox incorporated in the rear axle assembly. Lightweight wire wheels
suggest a smaller car than the angle of photo suggests. One of our
experts thinks this is a sleeve valve engined cca
1914 13.9hp BSA.

Briton 14/16 HP Tourer
Another photo from Tom Cosens (UK)
who says they are postcard curiosities
needing identification. This photo is a British postcard but no other
information to help. --
This has a relatively distinctive radiator slightly bell shaped
with a pronounced lip round the core and no badge, and a post 1911 AA badge.
Made by the Star Engineering Co as an economy model this is a cca
1914 Briton 14/16 HP Tourer, four
cylinder, under the name of the Briton Motor Co costing £225 basic,
£263 de luxe.

Perry Two-Seater
Another interesting photo received from
Eileen Stokes (UK). Eileen has no
information or link with the photo except that
she knows it was almost certainly taken in UK and is a postcard
curiosity requiring identification. --
No registration to help with dating but one
of our experts advises this is a Birmingham built cca
1914 Perry Two-Seater. Designed by
Cecil Bayliss (Bayliss-Thomas). Two models made; vertical twin 8hp pre
WW1, and 11.9 four cylinder after. Became 'Bean' in 1919.

Rover 8HP Two-Seater
Interesting photo received from John
Smithson of Buckinghamshire (UK) trying
to identify a car owned and driven by his mother who died at 98 some
years ago. No idea what happened to the car which he thinks look like a
Calthorpe on our site. --
Same era, built in the same town of Birmingham, but this one in Tyseley
and driven to Coventry to have the body fitted. Dummy radiator as was
an air cooled horizontal twin 998 cc with side air scoops
cca 1921 Rover 8HP Two-Seater, costing
then £180.

Very fuzzy creased photo received from
Janis Marks (Canada) researching
her father 92, and grandfather standing by his car in late 1920s
in Manchester UK. Has not found anybody able to identify car. Sorry
about poor photo. --
We have much repaired the missing creases, improved contrast and generally
textured the photo to help in identification, and can advise that our
experts say this is a cca
1924/5 Sunbeam 20/60 Three Quarter 2/3 Seat Coupe
with a Folding Head .

Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? --
Another car manufactured in Detroit America, by a couple of
brothers who supplied parts to Oldsmobile and Ford, and started
own car manufacture in 1914. This is a cca
1925 Dodge Brothers Series 116 Touring,
probably the Special from the bumpers and having sidelights
at base of windscreen. |

IDENTIFICATION AND
DATING:1926 Peugeot 177M Cabriolet
Another photo received from our regular
contributor Raoul Rainer from Stutgart (Germany)
from a batch of photos he purchased recently and has on line. He sent me a lovely
book
on German cars. Many thanks!! Raoul
wondered if this is a Peugeot 190 5CV? --
Looks a little bit small for a 190 as the
lady is relatively big but does not dwarf the car. It has the very
peculiar front wheel hub. One of our experts confirmed this was cca
1926 Peugeot 177M with Factory Cabriolet Body.

Lancia Lambda Torpedo
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? --
Nice to see photo of a car from
Romania that is not American! This car comes from Italy. Secondary
louvers in the scuttle behind bonnet. Unusual in having a single piece windscreen and also having
external door handles, suggesting this is cca
1926 Lancia Lambda Torpedo,
possibly coachbuilt. |

DATING:1928
Rugby Six Cabriolet
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? --
Complicated as this American car could have had three names.
Radiator is recognisable but having scuttle bracket mounted sidelights
limits it to 1928/29. During this period it could have be a Star
in US, Rugby in Europe & elsewhere, or in 1929 a Durant.
As Europe, probably cca 1928 Rugby Six Cabriolet.

Buick Model 25 Sport Touring
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? -- Fabulous
picture of a car manufactured in America being pulled across a
river in Romania on a cable ferry. Identification features are the
rad shape, cap and badge, and the dating features are the bullet
non-chromed headlights and Wolverine bumper. This is a
cca

Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. This is a photo of
a Chauffeur School. --
Enlarging the photo shows this is in
Cernauti which is in North East Romania and was the capital of
Bukovina, now split between Romania and Ukraine. Some nasty things
happened here during early years of soviet occupation. This is
American cca

1929 Maybach Zeppelin
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? -- Blurry
photo with no clear identification features visible. Not Amnerican,
but European. This would seem to be a 'state limousine' which has
a square late20's body. Our best guess is that it is German,
unlikely Mercedes Benz, so from twin horns may be cca 1929 Maybach
Zeppelin Pullman Limousine. |

Nash Model 421 Phaeton
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)

Another car manufactured in America, this one made in Kinosha,
Winsconsin, by company which started by buying Jeffery and badge
engineering. This is a cca

Buick Model 67 Sedan
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? -- Another
car manufactured in America, this one in Flint Michigan. Fitted
with the short stumpy sun visor, chromed upper link between the
headlamps, optional wire wheels much favoured in Europe, and
telltale " B" script logo on wheel hubs, this is a
cca

Ford Model 40 DeLuxe Coupe
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? --
Puzzling picture of a car manufactured in Detroit, America with
some inconsistent features. The car is a cca
1934 Ford Model 40 DeLuxe Coupe
from the straight V grille, straight louvers, dipped bumper &
twin horns, but standard car had
small lamps, external door hinges & small wire wheels. |

1934 Ford V8 Speedster
Another batch of fascinating photographs from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
this is? -- Quite
honestly NO! Many American and European manufactures made cars of
this style. It has Duesenburg/Auburn front wings, also on Alfas
and Talbot-Lagos etc. The logo is Ford V8 early 30s, so could be a
cca
1934 Ford Special. Ford US
made Model 40 Special Speedster with a body vaguely
similar. |

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1935
Hudson GH Two-Door Convertible
Cinema screen grab of a Vehicle which appeared in a
German film " Verräter " (Traitor) made in 1936 where the vehicles are being investigated by
IMCDB. The film is a Nazi Propaganda film rated as of 'exemplary
educational benefit' by the Hitler regime. All about spies trying to
penetrate the German armaments industry. --
The car is American, built in Detroit, and from the grille mesh with horizontal
inserts can be dated as cca1935
Hudson Series GH Two Door Convertible

Morris 10'4 Saloon Series II
Slightly fuzzy photo received from Brian
Edgecombe, Sydney (Australia) researching
family photos from the UK and believes dates can be placed on
them from the vehicles in them. He found us on Google. --
This one is relatively easy to date car from the registration CWL 4##
which was issued by Oxford County Borough Council in about February
1936. The car is a cca
1936 Morris 10'4 Saloon Series II.
Looks relatively newish. Dating the car, does not
necessarily date the photo!

DATING:1937 Wolseley 14/56 Saloon
Couple of lovely photos received from Mark
Jones from Warilla NSW (Australia) trying
to identify father's Wolseley they owned when they lived in England in
the 60s in Easebourne near Midhurst. Mark was born in Haslemere. --
Registration is London County Council,
issued in November 1937. The car had built-in hydraulic jacks and, as
it has four horizontal bonnet louvers, this indicates that this is a
well cared-for Series II 1937
Wolseley 14/56 Saloon; a de-luxe
version of a Morris 14.

Cinema screen grab of a Vehicle which appeared in a
Spanish film " No dispares contra mí " (Dont shoot me
!) made in 1961 where the vehicles are being investigated by
IMCDB. The film is about a young law student involved in a series
of small crimes that led him to discover the corpse of the husband of
his French friend Lucile in the trunk of the car. --
Spanish made car, based on a popular Italian car, introduced 1953, this
is a post 1956 mark III cca

mid-1940s Scene
Another photo received from Brian
Edgecombe, Sydney (Australia) researching
family photos from the UK and believes dates can be placed on
them from the vehicles in them. He found us on Google. --
The car is too small to recognise positively but is of the WW2 period
(1939-47). Hillman, Austin etc. Not many cars on the road ! The shops
in the background are showing ads for Vitbie bread and Bovril meat
extract. Not much of the bicycle or wicker
pannier basket visible to aid dating.
