:: [ SVVS NATIONAL
AND INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION ASSISTANCE
SERVICE ] ::
The SVVS Website currently
receives approximately 500,000
hits a year and the "HELP
PAGE" is internationally the most
visited 'page' on the site. We receive numerous e-mails from historians
and motoring enthusiasts from all over the world with the request to
identify vehicles from old photographs. We can help with identification
of Classic cars because most of us are old enough to remember them as
new, and owning Vintage or Veteran vehicles, many of us, and/or our
associates, are also specialists in own make or type of vehicle -
These Help Pages are therefore devoted to some of the interesting enquiries
received, and information that we have provided. While page is
being built, enquiries are in received order, - when completed, cars are in year
order:

Gladiator 10HP Tonneau
Our member David Smart (UK)
who regularly partakes in the London to Brighton Veteran Run with his
1904 Cadillac, bought his daughter a birthday card which had this
picture on. Any ideas what the car was? --
Two of our experts agree a Gladiator. One advised it is probably a cca
1902 Gladiator 10HP Tonneau twin
cylinder once registered U130 (now re-registered), used by a Leeds
scrapyard c1930 displayed over the entrance to premises supported on
scaffolding poles to attract custom.

Beaufort Side Entrance Tonneau
Our Publicity Officer Tony Russell (UK)
found this in a box of very old photos. Listed as a
"Petrol Autocar"...any ideas? -- Magnificent
looking vehicle but no ideas. Contacted our Ariejan Bos who is into
obscure early autos and he advised it was a cca 1904 Beaufort Side

Argus of Baden, and sold by a British capitalised company in London,
some bodied in UK. Comprehensive range of big cars, taxis and commercials.

Farrar's death in May 1915.
-- Earlier! Car is
cca
1907 Mercedes Double Phaeton. Chain
drive suggests the lager model, probably the 45hp. Interesting to note
the AA badge without wing so pre 1911. Registration is just visible as L
9##? being Glamorgan CC, Wales. L900 would have been late 1907.

date. --
Very blurry with runny colours. Carnegie
was a Scottish American steel industrialist 1835-1919, one of the
richest Americans ever! Car seems fitting and looks a chain drive cca

IDENTIFICATION AND
DATING:c1914
Daimler CC Van
Very pixly photo received from Rui Alves
(Portugal) asking if
it is possible to identify the vehicle in the picture? --
The photo has been over-sharpened when
scanned so although apparently good quality, it is not possible to see
detail to provide positive identification. Notwitstanding, we are
relatively sure this a cca
1914 Daimler CC Van. Update on the Y,
the CC and CB Daimlers were built in great quantities during WW1, with
Daimler pioneering the use of lorry pneumatic tyres.

PreWarCar website by Alan Douglas (UK)
saying that before the first world war his father bought this

letters look like 'Lion'. Registration is F - 257.
--
Some hesitation on registration as would be Essex, but pre 1905?

1917 Burford Lorries
Lovely period photo received from Geoff
Clay, Wirrai (UK)

up for sale. He suspects it was a car park for the Mersey ferries. --

shipment to the front. Mike Sutcliffe suggests they are cca

in a scan from old B&W photo. Family curiosity, Perth,
Australia. --

Monmouthshire, of what appears to be a 1930's coupe. Despite research
online I am unable to identify the make or model. --
Not a common model but a well known make.
Oval badge and flat grille suggest this is a cca

Rather dark photo received from Richard

woman. Friend has no internet and asked if Richard could help with
identification, so assistance would be greatly appreciated!
--
Received just after the enquiry above and
is even less common model of the same make. Oval badge and flat grille
suggest another cca

Humber 12 Sports Tourer with steeply raked 'sports' doors.

Ford Model C Two Door Saloon
