:: [ SVVS NATIONAL
AND INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION ASSISTANCE
SERVICE ] ::
The SVVS Website currently
receives approximately 500,000
hits a year and the "HELP
PAGE" is internationally the most
visited 'page' on the site. We receive numerous e-mails from historians
and motoring enthusiasts from all over the world with the request to
identify vehicles from old photographs. We can help with identification
of Classic cars because most of us are old enough to remember them as
new, and owning Vintage or Veteran vehicles, many of us, and/or our
associates, are also specialists in own make or type of vehicle -
These Help Pages are therefore devoted to some of the interesting enquiries
received, and information that we have provided. While page is
being built, enquiries are in received order, - when completed, cars are in year
order:

Interesting Email received
from Robert Wade (UK)
saying that the 1904
Brushmobile 6HP which has already
appeared on these page a few times: HP41
HP96
and HP99
also apparently appeared in a 1966 episode
of the Harry Worth comedy programme on UK TV, now on YouTube. -- And
sure enough HS 25 is indeed on screen for most of the programme, story
being that Harry went to pick up a parcel left at a parcel office as
inheritance from his uncle. Side start procedure shown.

|

Brushmobile 6HP 2 Seater
In view of the above
enquiry I looked on the internet for photos of the car when it was

Crane Simplex Model 5
Surfing through the internet in attempting
to identify old vehicles we came across a New Brunswick Free Public
Library Wikipedia Website Page showing a number of interesting
unidentified vehicles..
--
Photo is notated 'Car C' and intrigued because of the unusual front
suspension arrangement., a pair of brass shock absorbers affixed between
the front axle and headlight stanchions. This was one of the most
expensive and exclusive cars of America being a cca
1916 Crane Simplex Model 5.

a British Daimler which started in 1896 and licensed the use of the
Daimler Cannstatt name in the UK. Obtained the British Royal Warrant
1902 and supplied vehicles to the Royalty until the 1950s. This one has

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1931
Plymouth PA Sedan
Photograph posted on the PreWarCar website
by Henk asking if anybody can identify the car in the photo
marked as 'American mystery car'. -- Car
is indeed American and was named after a brand of binder twine popular
amongst farmers and nothing to do with cars. History can be traced back
to Maxwell Chalmers taken over by Walter Chrysler and transformed into
the Chrysler-Plymouth. This is a cca
1931 Plymouth PA Sedan.
Plymouth was the economy brand of Chrysler Cor.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
Possibly 1931
Duesenberg Speedster
Another fascinating photograph from our
regular contributor Cicos Florin in Constanta by the Black Sea (Romania)
who is interested in old cars of Romania. Do we know what
the car is? -- Not
exactly! None of our experts could nail it because it probably is a
'special', possibly based on a cca
1931 Duesenberg Speedster, possibly
the Model J. Problem is that while the back and the typical Duesenberg
curved bonnet louvres are correct, the radiator and front end are not,
possibly been modified.

|

Chenard & Walcker Aigle 8
Our regular contributor Mark Dawber (New

yes, grand yes, made in Paris yes, - Citroen no. The manufacturer
started 1898, won the first LeMans 24 hour race in 1923, was fourth

5 bonnet flaps, this is a cca

HP.

Triumph Gloria Sports Saloon
Photograph posted on the PreWarCar website

a friend born in England of her, father's car. They
would like to know the make but after hours of searching the internet
they have had no success. -- Car

Rover 12 Sports Saloon
Our regular contributor Mark Dawber (New

car is indeed a Rover and from glimpse of chrome strap on the spare
wheel cover, and the shape of the bonnet louvres, this is a cca 1935

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:c1949
Fiat Topolino Model C
Interesting photo sent to
us by George Layton of Bracciano (Italy),
asking if we could advise make, model, series? --
The vehicle chassis shown was designed in Italy
but was also made in France as a Simca. Despite the engine being at the
front, rear radiator, cars are perhaps better known for rear engined
products. This is a 569cc c1949
Fiat Topolino Model C which has
chassis over rear axle suggesting the more unusual estate, van or pik-up.
500,000 made. Became Fiat 600 in 1955.

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:Unidentified
c1904 Double Phaeton
Photo received from Ian Elliott on behalf
of Turtle Bunbury (Eire),
taken at Lisnavagh House in Co Carlow, c. 1906. Number looks like IX44
(perhaps), possibly from Co. Longford; or IY44 Co. Louth. Possibly
a De Dion 1904-1906 owned by Captain Brush of Brohatna. -- Not
De Dion Bouton. Regret person is
blocking out all ID features and photo is simply too small at 72dpi to
enlarge detail. Possibly a French Mors, or a French Gardner
Serpollet 'steamer' with the engine underside/rear.
|
|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:Unknown
1920s Camionnette Special
One of a number of interesting photos sent to us by
Andrew Kostin from Moscow (Russia) who
is a collector of old photos. Can we identify the lorry in a snapshot recently
purchased but which has no history and no date is known. -- Regretfully
no. Seems to be a home made modification of a relatively small car into
a small
camionnnette. No definitive
identification features except that it seems to re rear wheel drive and
had disc wheels with only three studs, rear wheels reversed.
|
|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:Unidentified
1930s Tourer Body
Number of interesting photos received from John
Bachellier, Templeton,
Central Coast California (USA) of
a body only he rescued in Los Angeles short while ago. Alloy body, mixed
wood and steel body frame, steel front and rear wings - no bonnet,
radiator, frame, engine etc. Would be most thankful if someone could
make an ID! -- None
of our contributors in UK or overseas were able to identify it. While
some say it does have a British flavour, others say possibly may
be French?
|
|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:Unidentified
Steyr Axle
Number of interesting photos received from
Ondrej Bujok (Czech Republic) advising
he has a piece of Steyre in his garden that looks like rear axle year
1926 Steyr VII. Can we help with recognition and can we advise where it
would be best to list it to sell it? -- Regrefully
our knowledge base relates mainly to
the general overall veteran and vintage vehicle scene. We do not have
any Steyr
experts so no specific in-depth knowledge. Perhaps a good place to sell
it would be Prewarcar.
