Motobloc RE Tonneau
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. This one was labeled 'Chesham, Bucks'.
-- Registration
BH 925 is Buckingham County Council of approx 1908. I thought perhaps a
Gammage but Ariejan Bos advised it was a real rarity, From the

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1905
Panhard & Levassor Tourer
Our Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) found on a Facebook page where
the identification of the vehicle is required. -- This
seems to be from a series of photographs showing personnel
from the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. These shows were mainly in late
1870s and were largely finished by time of this photo. Last shows were
a tour to France and Europe in 1906, so probably on return. Unusual
shape of radiator which points to a French cca
1905 Panhard & Levassor Type Q 50 CV Tourer.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:c1906/7
Delaunay
Belleville
Another interesting photo from our
regular contributor Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) from a Facebook page on ANZAC
Day, NZ equivalent of the Armistice Day, showing the NZ Forces in
Europe. Interest is in the round radiator vehicle between the people.-- Eccentric
circles with narrower side uppermost and quite a wide distance at the
bottom. Out of all contenders only the French cca
1906/7 Delaunay
Belleville meets the
details, but it is very difficult to make out the model or body
type.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1907
Rover 8HP Roadster
Another interesting photo posted on Facebook by John Davies (UK) looking
for identification. This one was also labeled 'Chesham,
Buckinghamshire.' Suggested car could be a Standard.-- Registration
BH 729 is Buckingham County Council of approx 1907. Car is indeed
British but had the hump on the rad for extremely short time, So ignore
hump, transverse front spring, and it suddenly becomes a cca
1907 Rover 8HP Roadster. They had
quite few changes of rad in early period!

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1909
Panhard & Levassor Tourer
Our Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) found on a Facebook page where
the identification of the vehicle is required. -- This
seems to be from a series of photographs showing personnel
from the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. These shows were mainly in late
1870s and were largely finished by time of this photo. Last shows were
a tour to France and Europe in 1906, so probably on return. From the
painted rad surround this is a French cca
1909 Panhard & Levassor Tourer,
possibly the 35CV.

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1909
Pearce Arrow Touring
Our Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) found on a Facebook page where
the identification of the vehicle is required. -- This
seems to be from a series of photographs showing personnel
from the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. William Cody had been a
soldier and buffalo hunter who had got his name by killing 4,000
buffalo in a year for the Kansas Pacific Railroad. He later became
showman in USA with his Wild West Show. Car is American aptly a cca

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1909 Calthorpe Tourer
Another very puzzling
period photo found on a Facebook page while researching other items and
saved for future identification. Believed photographed in Ireland. --
Unusual as it has a rounded radiator but
with a raised heder tank. Very few cars with that feature. Quite
a big car with no scuttle and not with wire wheels so relatively early
and before 1911, From a company making cars and motorcycles in
Birmingham, this is a cca
1909 Calthorpe Tourer, either the 15
or 20 HP.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1909
London Taxi Cab
Photo-of-a-photo taken through glass sent to us by
Terry Beckwith (UK) asking
us to put a date on this LCC registered Taxi, His grandfather was a
handsome cab driver around turn of 20th century.
-- Dating is easy; LD 6847 was issued by
London County Council about December 1909. We have done much to rebuild
the photo but identifying the make for definite is probably unlikely.
Vehicle with very steep bonnet, so only few makes and most likely a cca
1909 Humber 10'12 Landaulette
Taxi.

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1912 Hupmobile Model 20 Touring
Another very puzzling photo found unidentified
while researching on Internet and
saved for future identification. --
This car is American and has the sharply sloping
angular bonnet, very tall water filler cap and has gas headlamps,
which helps to identify it. Made in Detroit, Michigan, and for dating
purposes the sloping bonnet limits it to 1912-13. This is cca
1912 Hupmobile Model 20 Runabout by
Hupp Motor Co founded in 1908 by Robert Hupp, ex of Oldsmobile and
Ford. Hupp left to form RCH.

Very puzzling Kristinehamn town archives

Sörliden (Sweden) looking
for make. We could not identify but he eventually did !!
-- This
is an early American
cca 1913 Zip Two-Seater Cyclear built
by Zip in Davenport, Iowa. It is powered by a crosswise air cooled Vee
two cylinder 10'14HP Mac Engine. Friction drive transmission

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1913
BSA 13.9HP Tourer
Relatively faint spotted photo sent to us
by Paul Sutton-King (UK) which
we have had a go at improving to help in Identification. Distinctive
radiator badge and registration Dudley perhaps? -- Reg
HA371# is Smethwick CBC, not far from Dudley. With much collaborative
help we can advise that this is a cca
1913 BSA 13.9HP Tourer, which at that
time was a re-badged Daimler having just been taken over. Car has the
Knight Sleeve Valve Engine, 1912-15. Three-rifle BSA logo on
radiator.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1914
Theophile Scneider Omnibus
Cinema screen grab taken from a French
TV film "L'affaire Seznec" , made in 1993, and where
cars are being investigated by IMCDB. Based on a true 1923 story about
a high society murder miscarriage of Justice. -- This
shot was taken in relative darkness so details cannot be easily seem
but the vehicle is interesting by being a bus having an alligator type
bonnet and having a smoothly rounded radiator header tank. So not
Renault or similar, but French
cca 1914 Theophile Scneider Omnibus

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1914
Daimler 26HP Tourer
Another interesting photo from our
regular contributor Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) which seems to be a hand painted
version of an original black & white photo of the Prince of Wales
who played golf in Auckland New Zealand in April of 1920 - 100 years
ago. -- Edward
the Prince of Wales, later abdicated King Edward VIII, arrived in NZ on
battlecruiser HMS Renown and spent four weeks there. The car apparently
is cca
1914 Daimler 26H straight
4, 4576cc, quite rare as only made in 1913.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1914 Protos Model G Doppelphaeton
Another very puzzling photo found unidentified
while researching on Internet and
saved for future identification. Comes from a Russian site dealing with
the history of some of the Venev people who went to the WW1 front as
Sisters of Mercy. --
Car made in Germany, in Berlin, by company founded in 1898. Won the
1908 New York to Paris and became Keiser Bill's (Wilhelm II) entire
fleet. This is a just pre WW1 cca
1914 Protos Model G Doppelphaeton.

|
IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1923
Sunbeam 16HP Tourer
Another interesting photo from our
regular contributor Mark Dawber (New
Zealand) from a Facebook page.
No clues to location. Could bea Sunbeam but which model? -- Yes
looks very much a Sunbeam. This one has a slightly rounded bonnet top,
has slightly streamlined mudguards and has the smaller streamlined side
lights. It also has leather skirt below doors, has air vent and has no
door handles and no front brakes. All these factors point it towards
being cca
1922 Sunbeam 16HP Tourer.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:
1926 Hispano Suiza T48 Coupe
Another very puzzling
period photo sent to us by Richard Perrin (UK)
"I came across this pic of a saloon car in front of the George
Hotel with my mother in the passenger seat. Any ideas of that one
please?." -- Difficult
one as it has American, Continental and British features. We think this
is probably a Spanish factory version of the French H6B, a cca
1926 Hispano Suiza T48 Saloon Coupe.
Bodies designed to order. One of their smaller cars. Made big
fast luxury cars, and in WW2 aero engines.

IDENTIFICATION AND DATING:1928
Clyno 12'35 Saloon
Lovely photo sent to us by Bob Oswald (Canada)
who says this car make has me foxed. Date:
1931 Place: Woking, England. Wife's father David Fryer is pictured as a
3 year old with brother Eric. Their father Joseph Fryer was later a
director of James Walker's Lion Packings in Woking, so in 1931 would
have been in management. -- This
was then the third largest UK car maker started 1910, machinergunned
motorcycles in WW1. Cars 1920 but gone by 1929. This is cca
1928 Clyno 12'35 Saloon.

Unknown c1913
Two_Seater
Another very puzzling
period photo sent to us by Richard Perrin (UK)
"I came across this pic of a car belonging to another Gt Uncle.
Only pic I have and not much to go on. It looks as though he had a
chauffer." -- Two
seater so chauffeur from front car? Almost
impossible angle so none of our experts have been able to provide
identification. Tall car with a high pointed bonnet. Perhaps a Belsize,
Phoenix or Humber but rear springs not right. Worcester County Council
Registration late
1913.
